I can never understand why research, innovation and being a millionaire are seen as ideas completely alien to each other. I still don't understand why profitability, profits earned ethically or even the thought of it is seen as being money-minded. Money and Profits have still not ceased to be bad words in common parlance.
I love the fact that American researchers, those involved in Behavioural Economics, those who have even won Nobel for Economics have come up with business models that form the basis for business ventures that have gained phenomenal success. Why is research in US considered way beyond what everyone else is doing? My belief is that it does not remain confined to the esoteric. It becomes a part of everyday life. It is like a real-time experiment that doesn't look down upon profitability but demonstrates how the two ideas can be reconciled. Research ideas do take years to come to fruition but I do not believe one needs to give up research just because one thinks it does not pay enough. Never think of your ideas as useless. Never think of your talent as useless. Just keep doing your work.
